Weaning to solids

I am a first time mother to a gorgeous 7 month old baby and I have been trying to feed her solids for a month now. It's not been terribly successful so far and she seems to take more joy out of spitting the food onto mummy or smearing it everywhere than eating it :)

Everyone spoke about how hard it is feeding a newborn and apart from a few hiccups in the first week we got that sorted. Nobody told me that weaning her onto solids was going to be so difficult!

First there is the food preparation, mashing and processing and the half hour it takes to get her to eat a few mouthfuls, and then the clean up of her, the highchair, the floor, her dishes and mummy herself! Plus I am on constant guard against any signs of choking...

Hmmn... I need a battle plan to make this easier, but how long does this phase last?

Giving her the boob or a bottle was a lot simpler and a lot less messy, but the look on her face when she gets a new taste sensation - such as vegemite - is absolutely priceless :D
